This week’s theme… RECORD STORE DAY! (except for the part about SXSW)
Here Comes Record Store Day
In addition to all of our super cool RSD releases (The New Pornographers 7″, Esben and the Witch 12″, Fucked Up comp, Arthur Russell 2xLP and Deerhunter 7″), British Sea Power will be doing a full-on rocking instore at Criminal on Record Store Day. Unfortunately, many of our bands will be busy in the desert on RSD but if you see anyone coming through your town, give a holler and I’ll see what I can do.
Also, we might be hitting you back soon about a potential Interpol remix 12″ for RSD, though it’s still slightly up in the air so stay tunes for that. Let us know if there’s anything else we can send you to help out. Right on!
Let Us Not Forget That April 19 Is Still A Street Date!
We’re all aware that Record Store Day takes most all of your attention for awhile and it’s pretty difficult to focus on them regular records that we put out but let’s not forget that April 19 sees the release of four very fantastic Beggars Group releases.
First off, tUnE-yArDs is putting out her amazing sophmore effort for 4AD w h o k i l l. I know some of you have started ordering w h o k i l l and I know that most of you haven’t ordered enough. We’re all very excited for this record and confident that it’s gonna do big things, so please make sure you have enough stock for street date.I’ll be coming at cha with co op bookings very soon. Until then, check out “Bizness,” the first MP3 from the album here and read a fantastic interview with the madwoman behind tUnE-yArDs here.
Also on 4/19 Rough Trade is dropping not one, not two but THREE excellent albums. The date sees the release of UK prog-folkers The Unthanks Last and German blip magician Pantha du Prince’s XI Versions of Black Noise.
Last is a fantastic collection of The Unthanks’ brand of UK folk mashed with their proggy roots (did someone say there’s a King Crimson cover on this album?). You can check out the album’s first MP3 here.
And on the polar opposite side of the spectrum, XI Versions of Black Noise is a collection of remixes of Pantha’s fantastic Black Noise by such electronic luminaries as Four Tet, Animal Collective, Walls and a new version of “Lay In A Shimmer” by Pantha himself.
Somewhere in the middle is Micachu & The Shapes and The London Sinfonietta’s Chopped & Screwed which is a wild collaboration between the UK art-rockers and London’s experimental Sinfonietta. While this is not a proper release for Micachu, it is an excellent stopgap between Jewellery and her forthcoming follow-up. So make sure you’re all good and stocked up for these four releases.
Deerhunter in Three Dimensions
Some of you are already signed up here but to the rest of you, give a shout if you want to be involved in this excellent premiere of Pitchfork’s new 3D Sessions. That’s right, Pitchfork is rolling out their new session “Pitchfork 3D” featuring Deerhunter and they’re teaming with us to give independent retailers a jump of the video’s premiere.
We’re sending 3D glasses and screening the session at select independent retailers around the US on Record Store Day ’11. So please let me know if you want to take part and have your store mentioned on the world’s most popular music blog.
Buy Early Get Fucked Up
Shortly after Record Store Day, we’ll be launching our newest installment of the ever-awesome Buy Early Get Now program with Fucked Up’s amazing new album David Comes To Life (out 6/7).
We’re holding on to the details now, as the madness surrounding Record Store Day may only lead to more confusion for all of us but I can assure you that this is arguably our juiciest package yet with tons of stuff for your Fucked Up fans on top of a pre-street date album download for purchasers. If you haven’t replied to my previous email about participation, please do so now so we can get our interactive map up and rolling. Booya.
So who’s going to Austin? While you guys are soaking up the sun and the suds, our sales staff will be here challenging each other to bike races around the office (we’ve already set up an obstacle course. It’s awesome) but we’ll have plenty of the other office folks are going… be sure to say hi.
As for the Group, we’re only hosting two parties this year (True Panther Sounds, Saturday March 19, 8pm at Shangri’la and 4AD, Saturday March 19, 2-6pm at Clive Bar. Those fliers below) but plenty of our bands are heading Austin-way as we speak.
Have fun! And don’t hesitate to send me drunk texts.
